Description: The Children's Art Workshop is a program for 400-800 children, ages 5-15. During the workshop children will be introduced to artistic influences and experiences, creative skills, cultural issues, and art historical information. They will also learn to develop creative decisions in situations where there are no standard answers. Classes range from "creative expression" for younger children to ceramics, sculpture, painting and 3-D art for the upper grades and are run in two sessions, from 9-10:30 and from 11-12:30.

Description: Founded in 1992, the Arizona Geographic Alliance exists to strengthen geography education in Arizona and is a member of the national network of state geographic alliances initiated by the National Geographic Society in 1986. The alliance network is represented in all fifty states; the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Canada. The National Geographic Society continues to provide substantial support to geography education nationwide. The Alliance concentrates on providing up-to-date geographic information and concepts and innovative classroom materials for K-12 teachers of all subjects. Its goals are to build a grassroots organization of educators supporting geography education in Arizona and to support continued professional growth by organizing a wide assortment of educational opportunities for K-12 teachers. Some examples include: Summer Geography Institutes; In-Service Workshops; Evening Seminars/Lectures/GeoForums ; Special National Geographic Society Programs. The Alliance also facilitates communication among educators by publishing A to Z, the Arizona Geographic Alliance newsletter.

Description: Future plans for education and outreach include the installation of information displays at Columbia University's Biosphere 2 facility in Oracle, Arizona and at Robert Ballard's Institute for Exploration in Mystic, Connecticut. These displays will be interactive and assist the general public in understanding NASA's Astrobiology Roadmap and the research being conducted at ASU. In conjunction with this ASU Astrobiology will also develop traveling exhibits that can be taken to local grade schools to assist teachers and to explain topics such as how the universe is being explored. The institute's goal is to continue to captivate the public with the exciting research and discoveries from this comprehensive field of science!

Description: In collaboration with the Southwest Autism Research Center (SARC), the Childhood Autism Research Laboratory (CARL) provides research space for the various joint projects between SARC and ASU. CARL houses a post-doctoral fellow, two graduate students, and several undergraduate interns. Computer facilities allow for data entry, management, and analyses. Students from the program work in the community, while training as therapists for autistic children.
